Trivia over Atletico Madrid:

  • 1: The nickname Los Colchoneros means the Mattress Makers due to the red-and-white stripes of the team's first uniforms resembling mattress fabrics. Their other nickname, Los Indios, is not entirely clear: perhaps because they signed a numer of South American players in the seventies, perhaps because their rivals, Real Madrid, play in white and los indios were their traditional enemies, perhaps because their stadium was "camped" on the riverside.
  • 2: The late Luis Aragones was not only the top goal scorer in Atletico Madrid history, but also the coach who led the Spain National team to win their 2nd UEFA European Championship (Euros) in 2008.
  • 3: King Felipe VI has been an Honorary President of the club since 2003.
